Early 2007 - Buying and Selling

Started a new hobby, browsing for houses, been to see a couple but we’re being quite picky. Much fun to be had. Looking for somewhere near a train station to get C to London; perhaps Oxford or a village near Didcot will do.

Casually invited a few estate agents round to value the house. Surprised they think its worth that much. Accidentally put it on the market. Spent a week getting the place ‘minimalised’ to make it look nice for the punters, finalise a few details with Paul our new agent, couple of flattering pics and we’re on the internet.

It looks like we’re actually going to do it.

Found a nice cottage in a local village, a damp old place which needs a bit of work. Made an offer, refused – too low and we have no buyer. It’s a shame, we really like this one. A week later, we’ve got no punters, not a single viewing :(

Bit frustrated, seen some more houses. Someone thinks that it’s OK to sell a house with teenage scrawlings on the wall in thick, black marker pen. We scoff but we still have no buyer, we also haven’t found a new house. Living in a ‘minimalised’ house is getting more difficult, we’re not good at keeping it minimal.

Got one! – one viewer, one offer, we‘re sold. Immediately make a new, higher offer on the cottage. Accidentally start a bidding war and we’re not sure what we’re doing. We win by offering the asking price, felt a bit foolish but at least we have it.

Late 2006 - Thinking about it

Decided that it was time to move on. The comfy 3 bed semi that we’ve inhabited for the last 2 ½ years has become perhaps a little too comfy.

‘Time for a challenge’ we think.

I think we’re bored…
